George Washington Carrier Strike Group Gets Underway

SINGAPORE (NNS) -- The George Washington Carrier Strike Group departed early from a port visit in Singapore Oct. 15 to be better postured to provide humanitarian aid if needed in the wake of the worst flooding in many years in Thailand.

Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers USS Dewey (DDG 105), USS Mustin (DDG 89) and USS Wayne E Meyer (DDG 108) and additionally, USS Kidd (DDG 100) has been instructed to join USS George Washington, Dewey and Wayne E. Meyer to provide assistance.

The U.S. Navy has extensive experience, unique capabilities, and a long history with providing humanitarian assistance and disaster response to those in need.
