India Bullies Twitter Into Banning Accounts of American, British Students Thousands of Miles Away

Editor's note: I have watched this mess escalate over the past few days. Friends who I associate with on Twitter were involved and had their accounts suspended in the name of supposed Indian National security. I even posted some Indian OSINT info on my account during the last Pak-India dustup. So if the fools that started this mess in India would like to come after me you had better bring your A game. Those that know me also know that I have nor have I ever been a member of the Pakistani Intel services. This whole thing is an unacceptable situation and some of these bad actors that made these allegations should have legal action taken against them for defamation.

Excerpt from the Daily Beast website:

Twitter is warning a Texas college student that it might “be obliged to take action” after some of his tweets were ruled a national security threat by the government of India eight thousand miles away.

The notice issued to 21-year-old Ryan Barenklau on Saturday is part of a crackdown on a group of open-source investigators who spend their days sifting through data and imagery to glean insights on regional conflicts around the world. Barenklau’s focus is primarily on Crimea and North Korea, but in May a journal in India wrongly claimed his account was part of a Pakistani disinformation ring.

The new crackdown appears to trace back to a report last month by the journal Great Game India that purported to expose a disinformation network buffeting India with fake news. The journal focused on a Pakistani open-source investigator named Faran Jeffery who serves as a deputy director for the British counterterrorism think tank ITCT, and tweets as “NatSecJeff.”

Earlier this year Jeffery spun out a Twitter thread covering reports out of Pakistan's Bahawalpur district that the Indian Air Force had intruded into Pakistani air space and dropped a bomb in the desert outside Fort Abbas. His tweets surfaced local news articles, photos and social media posts from the region and included cautionary notes not typically seen in state-sponsored disinformation ops. “Unless we now get a statement from Pakistani military, it would be a good idea to remain skeptical about these reports since we don't know yet exactly what happened,” he wrote in one tweet.

The Pakistani military later said there’d been no incursion by India. But Great Game India pegged Jeffery as a fake news operative working for Pakistan, citing some of his other tweets, and the fact that he previously worked for a Pakistani institute with military ties. In May, an Indian newspaper aired the journal’s findings under the headline “Retired Pak officers behind 'fake news,’” publishing a list of seven additional Twitter accounts that frequently share Jeffery’s tweets.

The paper, citing Great Game India’s research, claimed all the accounts “have Pakistani roots.”

Eighth US Coast Guard NSC departs shipyard for Hawaii homeport

Future USCGC Midgett, the US Coast Guard’s eighth national security cutter (NSC), got underway from Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Pascagoula, Mississippi, shipyard after being delivered to the coast guard early May.

The ship is headed for Honolulu, Hawaii, where it will be stationed along with the seventh NSC, Kimball, and fast response cutters (FRCs) Joseph Gerczak and Oliver Berry.

FRC William Hart, scheduled for commissioning in late 2019, will also be stationed there.
NSC 8 is named to honor the hundreds of members of the Midgett family who have served in the US Coast Guard and its predecessor services. At least 10 members of the Midgett family earned high honors from the US Coast Guard for their heroic lifesaving deeds. Seven Midgett family members were awarded the Gold Lifesaving Medal, the US Coast Guard’s highest award for saving a life, and three were awarded the Silver Lifesaving Medal.

NSCs are 418 feet (127 m) long with a 54-foot beam and displace 4,500 tons with a full load. They have a top speed of 28 knots, a range of 12,000 miles, an endurance of 60 days and a crew of 120.

U.S. Coast Guard Announces Homeport of New Polar Security Cutter

Healy Arctic

The U.S. Coast Guard announced that Seattle, Washington will be the home of the service’s new Polar Security Cutters.
“I am pleased to announce that Seattle, Washington will be the home of the Coast Guard’s new Polar Security Cutters,” said Admiral Karl L. Schultz, Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard.  “The Pacific Northwest has been the home of our icebreaking fleet since 1976, and I am confident that the Seattle area will continue to provide the support we need to carry out our critical operations in the polar regions.”
The U.S. Coast Guard is the nation’s lead agency responsible for providing assured surface access in the polar regions.  The addition of the Polar Security Cutters in Seattle will support the United States’ ability to conduct national missions, respond to critical events, and project American presence in the high latitudes.
The Coast Guard conducted a detailed analysis to identify locations that could accommodate the Polar Security Cutter. Based on operational and logistical needs, Seattle was determined to be the appropriate homeport for the first three Polar Security Cutters.
In April 2019, VT Halter Marine, Inc. of Pascagoula, Mississippi, was awarded a contract for the detail design and construction of the Coast Guard’s Polar Security Cutter class.

Airshow Update: F-22 Flight Demo Team Frequency

F-22 Raptor makes historic flight with Blue Angels

One of the more well-known airshow related frequencies that I have documented in my annual airshow guides is 384.550 MHz. Users of this frequency include:

USAF F-15 Flight Demo Team (West), USAF F-16 Flight Demo Team, the USAF Heritage Flight, USAF A-10 Thunderbolt Demonstration Teams, and USAF Combat Search and Rescue (SAR) Demonstrations.

I can now add the USAF F-22 Flight Demo Team (Raptor c/s) to this list. You do not even have to be near an airshow to hear activity on this frequency. These teams also use it for air-air comms as they transit x-country to and from airshows.

Be sure to add 384.550 MHz to your Milcom scanner loadout.

Sikorsky gets contract to build six presidential helicopters

Navaltoday.com is reporting that Sikorsky has received a $542 million contract to build six VH-92A helicopters for the presidential lift mission.

“The team has efficiently leveraged a proven platform with cutting edge government mission systems for rapid agile development of the next helicopters to fly Presidential missions,” said James F. Geurts, assistant secretary of the Navy for research, development, and acquisition.
The VH-92A is expected to achieve initial operational capability in late 2020. It will increase performance and payload over the current presidential helicopters, VH-3D and VH-60N, that have been serving over 40 years.s

FoxNews is reporting that US and Russian warships almost collide in the Philippine Sea. The USS Chancellorsville, a guided-missile cruiser, nearly collided with the Udaloy I DD 572 when it made an "unsafe maneuver", coming within 50 to 100 feet, according to the Navy's 7th Fleet in a statement. This unsafe action forced Chancellorsville to execute all engines back full and to maneuver to avoid a collision,” said the Navy’s 7th Fleet in a statement.
