Pakistani Navy Info from Down Under

Pakistani Navy destroyers Shahjahan & Tippi_Sultan.

Our good friend of this blog Eddy Waters down under in South Australia passes along the following information on the Pakistani Navy -- thanks Eddy.

Here is a list of calls made by several ships etc. of the Pakistan Navy. The frequency is 12876.00 kHz USB. The mode used is ALE or for the purists MIL-STD 188 141A. The universal time these calls were logged, was between 1030 UTC and 1200 UTC.

http://www.paknavy.gov.pk/type21.htm

Khaibar, Badr and Shahjahan are destroyers. The ALE address KW is I believe Karachi. I do not know who School1 and Comschool refer to.

Kentucky CAP Callsigns

For those who monitor the CAP, here is a breakdown of the callsigns used by the Kentucky Wing of the Civil Air Patrol.

The basic wing callsign is Kentucky CAP ####.

The callsigns are assigned in blocks of one-hundred call signs to each squadron.

Squadron - Callsign - Range
001 - Wing HQ 0 – 99
007 - London Composite 100 – 199
011 - Paducah Composite 200 – 299
039 - Louisville Composite 300 – 399
050 - Boone County Composite 400 – 499
057 - Bowling Green Composite 500 – 599
058 - Centenary Composite 600 – 699
063 - Frankfort Composite 700 – 799
073 - Campbell County Composite 800 – 899
077 - Golden Armor Composite 900 – 999
082 - Jim Brewer Composite 1000 – 1099
122 - Danville Senior 1100 – 1199
123 - KYANG Composite 1200 – 1299
131 - Bardstown Composite 1300 – 1399
214 - Bowman Senior 1400 – 1499
216 - Fort Campbell Composite 1500 – 1599
217 - Western KY Composite 1600 – 1699
218 - Fulton County Composite 1700 – 1799

Each squadron has reserved call signs in their block corresponding to the wing command structure and call signs. For Example “KY CAP 4” is the Wing Director of Communications. In the Fulton County Composite “KY CAP 1704” is assigned to the Squadron Communications Officer. The callsigns 0, 100, 200, 300, etc are assigned to the Wing and Squadron respectively for use with assigned equipment.

If you follow the CAP HF ALE side of things the ALE address 0148KYCAP is located in Lexington, Kentucky.

Milcom Blog Logs - 29-30 Dec 2010 Brasstown NC

LaMoure, ND -- Ed Krell operates FEMA's Incident Response Vehicle (IRV) set up at the base of Lake LaMoure sillway to provide live streaming video to local and state emergency operations center for planning and documentation purposes. Photo: Michael Rieger/FEMA.

Ran PC-ALE on the various known FEMA net frequencies. Found a new 15 MHz FNARS net ALE freq, and a new FEMA sponsored HF ALE net that I have discovered, usage yet to be determined (see the HIJ listings). My good friend and colleague Hugh Stegman on twitter (Twitter feed at UtilityWorld)posted up a couple of additional freqs yesterday. My best guess is that HIJ may be WGY 912 at Mt Weather in Virginia.

This new FEMA sponsored net uses the following frequencies:
4610.0 4979.0 5837.0 7870.0 10424.0 11448.0 12109.0 13437.0 16011.0 18475.0 20361.0 23390.0 kHz. More monitoring research is needed to determine the usage of this net.

Here are the ALE addresses and frequencies spotted up until 0530 EST (1030 UTC) this morning. Conditions yesterday were the pits thanks to the prop gods.

I have tentatively identified some possible CAP regional nets that will be ramping up bigtime next year, but it is a bit to early to publish at this point. More on that is more on-the-air data becomes available.

Lots of CG aircraft guard comms, much like we use to hear on the other prim A/G HF channels (5696, etc). Most of the comms were in the clear. Some of the ICE units used voice encryption.

COTHEN is a very active network, one that I recommend most monitors new to ALE comms start with. It is real busy and there are clear comms to monitor. I will have more on this in one of my future Milcom columns in Monitoring Times magazine.

Also monitored the HF-GCS Scope Command ALE frequency 9025.0 kHz. Here is the result of that effort.

CAP Nationwide Exercise Cancelled until the Fall

Last month I reported on this blog that CAP was going to conduct a nationwide communications exercise prior to the 4th of July (see http://mt-milcom.blogspot.com/2010/06/cap-to-conduct-nationwide-exercise-soon.html).

Well word has reached my desk that the highly vaulted summer nationwide CAP comm exercise has been postponed and may now be conducted in the Fall.

The CAP is quite active within the HF spectrum and can be interesting to monitor. The following ALE addresses have been seen here in BTown.

0001OKCAP 0002SCCAP 0004IACAP 0004ILCAP 0004MSCAP 0004NVCAP 0004NYCAP 0004SCCAP 0004WICAP 0004WVCAP 00081ILCAP 0010NVCAP 0010PACAP 0011ARCAP 0011DCCAP

I have found the assignment pattern for their ALE addresses as follows:

#### (state two ltr abbrev) CAP aka 0001OKCAP (A state/wing callsign)
### (region abbrev/NHQ) CAP aka 004MERCAP or 909NHQCAP (Region address/National HQ assigned address)

There are some 4-number addresses and these have all been associated with a state wing.

And here is my latest freq list (I know I am still missing some high end freqs)

2011.0 3204.0 4477.0 4585.0 5006.0 5447.0 6773.0 6806.0 7602.0 7665.0 8012.0 9047.0 10162.0 11402.0 12081.0 13415.0 14357.0 15602.0 17412.0 19814.0 25354.0 29894.0 kHz.

Updates are always welcomed via the email address in the masthead.

Another New Freq for T69ME1 using LSB mode

T69ME1 and its sister stations T43DE1 and T55WA2, continue to intrigue the Mil/Gov HF monitors. Even as we try to get a handle on the Mil/Gov agency of T69ME1 (I still say it is a station in Maine), Jon, a HF ute monitor in Florida has found them on a new frequency.

Jon wrote, "On the #wunclub IRC channel tonight while monitoring other ALE activity on 6995 U (Chilian Navy) heard some off freq ALE. Tuned to 6997 LSB and got T69ME1 many times. I did some Googling and found your weblog. Now parked on it for the night, 6997 L awaiting anything else."

Thanks Jon. So now we have T69ME1 on the following frequencies (mode is USB unless otherwise indicated): 4490.0 5211.0 6766.0 6800.0 6985.0 6997.0(LSB) 9106.0 10493.0 10816.5 11217.0 11608.5 13242.0 13568.0 14396.5 14653.0 15094.0 16338.5 17458.5 17487.0 kHz.

We also have T43DE1 (Delaware?) on the following frequencies: 10493.0 11608.5 kHz working a NG WMD-CST unit out of New Jersey earlier in the year.

And finally a new one T55WA2 (Washington?) on 7720.0 kHz discovered by Jack Metcalfe recently.

Interesting ALE addresses for sure. Anyone else have anything to add to these stations - frequencies/ID? Drop me some email.

Who are T43DE1 and T69ME1?

Shannon on the UDXF list posted a new frequency for our latest ALE mystery address - T69ME1. As my good friend Hugh has pointed out on the UDXF list T69ME1 is a recent player on the US Gov and the NG military nets. I first reported this station last week on March 23, 2010.

Back in January I saw another player on some of the same frequencies with a similiar ALE address: T43DE1. It was monitored on 10493.0 and 11608.5 kHz.

I can also add another freq for T69ME1 that I have monitored on 13242.0 kHz that didn't make the freq list that Hugh reported. So the current freq list and primary usage is as follows:

4490.0 SHARES SCN ALE Net
9106.0 SHARES SCN ALE Net
10493.0 FEMA National Radio System (FNARS)
10816.5 National Guard STARC Nationwide Net
11608.5 US Army Emergency, Operational Command and Alerting Net
13242.0 SHARES SCN ALE Net
13568.0 National Guard STARC Nationwide Net
14653.0 National Guard STARC Nationwide Net
16338.5 National Guard STARC Nationwide Net
17458.5 National Guard STARC Nationwide Net

My best guess right now is a US Army NG unit. So it will be fun to watch and see what other ALE addresses pop up using the T43DE1 and T69ME1 format and what new frequencies are used by our T69ME1 friend. Anybody out there reading this blog have any insight that they would like to share? Remember I do accept anonymous contributions.
