As of yesterday afternoon and confirmed again this morning the RAF Tactical Volmet that was widely heard here statewide on 11159 kHz is off the air.

REA4 - Russian Strategic Air / 37th Air Army Frequencies

Russian military communications expert Trond Jacobsen in Norway shared this great list of Russian Strategic Air HF frequencies to the UDXF list. Thank you always Trond for sharing your monitoring and researching with the rest of us.

Recently there has been been some interesting posts of REA4 messages (Russian strategic Air / 37th Air Army) by Jay and others.

Here is a list of frequencies in use by their outlet at Kostino, mil units # 23452, 66213. (56.0158N 39.400E) (The tx site east of Pochinki 55.2598N 39.5095E, is believed to be longer in use.)

Mode is F1B 50/1000 revs, w/fsk morse/1000 on the higher frequencies and OOK 50/sec idle, w/A1A morse on the lower frequencies:

Russian Naval Comms/Russian Ships in Cyprus

A Russian frigate from the Black Sea Fleet “Smetlivy” left the Syrian Port of Tartus in April 2012


Elements of the Black Sea Fleet have visited Cyprus.

'Russian Navy warships docked at Limassol port over the weekend for the first time in at least ten years.

The Russian frigate Smetlivy docked at Limassol port on Sunday at 9.30am to re-supply with food and water and rest its crew before heading off in the afternoon at 5.30pm.

Yesterday, a Russian tug boat Shakhter also docked at Limassol port at 7.56am and is due to leave today. Both ships are part of the Black Sea Fleet and according to reports, are on their way to Syria. Russia has a naval base at the Syrian port of Tartus, the only naval facility outside of the former Soviet Union. '

New Ukraine Air Force HF Net Found

Alex in Russia has discovered a Ukraine Air Force HF radio network on 8974.0 kHz USB.
Callsigns for the ground stations included DOZOR, VOSHOD, and PEREMENA. Thanks for sharing with the rest of us Alex.

Thursday War Frequency

It is a 'Thursday War' frequency. Every Thursday the Royal Navy and other NATO naval forces have a large exercise in 'La Manche' between Brittany/Normandy and Cornwall/Devon. As would be expected, all the vessels use codes rather than their ship-names, but you can usually work out the nationality of the ship from the accent on the radio.

US Coast Guard District 7 HF Net

While doing a Monitoring Times First Look column test this morning on the Perseus SDR receiver, I monitored the weekly USCG D7 HF Net at 1300 on 7530.0 kHz. CAMSLANT Chesapeake is the NCS. All signal levels were strong and solid using the 350 foot longwire and my 80m full length G5RV.

I have been working on a new list of U.S. Government/Military HF radio nets that meet on a regular basis. If you have one to add, drop me a note at the email address in the masthead.

BTW - The Perseus is a sweet radio. I should have my test complete in the the September 2009 issue of MT for those who are interested. But I will say if you are looking for a capable, highend receiver and have a solid computer interface (I highly recommend a laptop vs a desktop with a conventional computer monitor), take a serious look at the Perseus. It handles HF duties quite well.

New Unidentified HF ALE Net Information Available

If you like chasing a true radio mystery then I have just the thing for you. Over on my Btown Monitoring Post Blog are some interesting post from my good friend Sam in Europe regarding several HF ALE networks, including an Arab Voice/ALE network.
