USS Houston Arrives in Subic Bay

SUBIC BAY, Philippines (NNS) -- USS Houston (SSN 713) arrived in Subic Bay, Philippines, Feb. 26 for a scheduled port visit.

While in Subic Bay, Houston will provide a tour of the ship to a number of distinguished guests from the Philippine government.

The Philippine National Police has also challenged the crew of Houston to a friendly game of basketball.

"The Philippine-U.S. relationship is very important to security in the region and visiting Subic Bay gives us the opportunity to strengthen that relationship," said Cmdr. David Schappert, Houston's commanding officer. "My crew and I are looking forward to meeting the people of the Republic of the Philippines and learning about their culture. Our two countries have a long history of working together for peace and stability, and we are humbled to have the opportunity to continue to develop that relationship."

Houston is one of three Los Angeles-class submarines homeported in Apra Harbor, Guam. Houston currently serves under Commander, Submarine Group 7, headquartered at Naval Base Yokosuka, Japan.
